Code Enforcement
City of Wharton Code Enforcement Department is responsible for interpreting and enforcing various city ordinances adopted but City Council governing nuisances, health, and safety issues and use of property within the community. Code Enforcement staff works with citizens, property owners, and businesses to achieve and maintain compliance.
Complaints
The city will investigate code compliance concerns by request. Please use the the Complaint Form (PDF) to submit compliance-related concern or complaint or call the Code Enforcement Department (979) 532-2491.

Common Code Violations
The Code Enforcement protects the health, safety, and welfare of Wharton residents through the reasonable enforcement of Wharton codes and ordinances. The following is a list of common code violations:
- High Grass and Weeds
- Junk Vehicles
- Illegal Dumping
- Garbage/Trash Collection
- Sign Violations (Garage Sale)
- Unsafe Structure
- Unhealthy Condition of Property
- Construction without Permits
- Soliciting
- Occupied RV Trailers

If you have inquires as to what types of ordinances are regulated by the City, please contact Code Enforcement Department at (979) 532-2491. If you wish to report a nuisance or concern, please contact the Department.
A code enforcement officer will visit the site and determine whether a violation exists or not and will notify the responsible party as necessary. Failure on the part of the responsible party to comply with city ordinance may result in the issuance of a citation to appear in the Municipal Court punishable by applicable fines.
You may also request a copy of any ordinance adopted by the City under the Open Records Act by completing an Open Records Request. Please submit your written request to the City Secretary at City Hall for processing.
