Administration

The administration of the Wharton Police Department consists of the Chief of Police and three Lieutenants under his command. They are responsible for insuring that the officers and staff of the department have the tools, training, and motivation to meet the needs of the community that we serve.

In May 2014, Chief Terry David Lynch was appointed as the Chief of Police for the Wharton Police Department. Chief Lynch started his career in Law Enforcement in February 1989, after serving four years in the United States Air Force. Chief Lynch started with the Wharton Police Department in December 1989. During his tenure with the Wharton Police Department, he has been assigned as a Patrol Officer, Narcotic Dog Handler, Emergency Response Team Commander/Leader, and a Detective Sergeant within the Criminal Investigation Division.

Chief Lynch is a graduate of Federal Bureau of Investigation National Academy (Session 221), an FBI Law Enforcement Executive Association (FBI-LEEDA) Trilogy recipient, as well as a graduate of the Federal Bureau of Investigation Command College. A message from the Chief:

On behalf of the Men and Women of the Wharton Police Department, our law enforcement agency strives to meet the highest ethical and professional standards in police service. Our Department is committed to providing top quality law enforcement services 24 hours a day; 7 days a week. I have been truly honored and humbled to serve as your Police Chief.  Wharton is no longer “your” City; it is “OUR CITY.” I am a vested resident of this area who, just like you, wants to live in a city that has an enhanced quality of life for all of its citizens and a sense of community throughout. The Wharton Police Department has incorporated many community policing initiatives such as “Coffee with Your Cops”, "WPD Citizen’s Police Academy”, “Blue Santa Program” and our “Wharton Pastors Against Crime” committee, along with other programs to develop collaboration with citizens, youth, neighborhoods and community stakeholders.

As Chief of Police, I am committed to creating innovative approaches to delivering excellent police services in a fair, equitable, humane and compassionate manner. I am committed to promoting this community by preserving the peace and reducing criminal elements so that citizens and visitors may live and conduct business without concern or fear.

I, along with all of the members of the Wharton Police Department, want you to know that Law Enforcement officers are never “off duty”. They are dedicated public servants who are sworn to protect public safety at any time and place that the peace is threatened. I leave you with the profound acknowledgment that we are here to serve YOU.

Yours in Service,

Terry David Lynch

Chief of Police
