Emergency Management Mission Statement
The City’s Office of Emergency Management mission is to develop and maintain a comprehensive plan to prepare for, respond to, and recover from, all types of major emergencies that might occur in the City.
This is accomplished by working to coordinate the cooperation of various City Departments, Agencies, and Volunteer Units. This also includes County, State, and Federal Agencies and other organizations that would have a role in any major disaster or emergency.
During a major disaster or emergency, response and recovery activities are coordinated from the Emergency Operations Center (EOC). From the EOC Elected Officials and Department Heads work in a Unified Command System to respond to the emergency.
Mitigation: those activities, which eliminate or reduce the probability of disaster.
Preparedness: those activities which governments, organizations, and individuals develop to save lives and minimize damage.
Response: those activities which follow a disaster and are designed to prevent loss of lives and property and provide emergency assistance.
Recovery: short and long term activities, which return all systems to normal or improved standards.
