Victim Assistance
Each victim is different and so are the particular needs of the victim. Assistance can range from filing of Texas Crime Victim Compensation with the Attorney General’s Office; Information on victim’s rights; On-scene crisis intervention; Explanation of Emergency Protective Orders; Evaluation of victim short-term needs; Telephone counseling. Flexibility is essential to helping the victim of crime.
The Victim Assistance Unit is available to help you if you become a victim of a crime. As a victim of a crime, we want to see that your rights are not forgotten.
It is the policy of this department to provide quality investigation of all cases. The rights of crime victims will be of utmost concern and the apprehension, arrest, and prosecution of offenders will be accomplished whenever possible.
VINE - Victim Information and Notification Everyday
The Texas State Victim Notification Service (VINE) is a service through which victims of crime can use the telephone or Internet to search for information regarding their offender’s custody status and register to receive telephone and e-mail notification when the offender’s custody status changes. This service is brought to you by the Office of the Attorney General, Office of the Governor, and local city and county officials. The VINE toll free number of Texas VINE is 1-877-894-8463
