Communications

The Communications Division of the Wharton Police Department is the first contact citizens have when calling for Police, Fire, and Emergency Medical Services. The Communications Division links citizens to the appropriate emergency services. Additionally, the Communications Division provides dispatching of both emergency and non emergency response for Police, Fire and Emergency Medical Services.

911
The Communications Division is the Wharton public service answering point for 911 calls. When a 911 call is made within the City of Wharton, it is routed by advanced technology which sends the information to the Wharton Police Department Communications Division. The 911 services are provided through Houston-Galveston Area Council 911 Emergency Network and the Gulf Coast Regional Communications District.

CAD / MCT

The Communications Division utilizes eForce Public Safety Software and Superion integrated public safety software. The computer aided dispatching module known as CAD, enhances the performance of communications as it provides key information to dispatchers, Police officers, Firefighters and Emergency Medical Technicians within seconds. The software is designed to reduce response times and provide better service to the public. The software also displays hazards, prior incidents, outstanding warrants, and much more which provides law enforcement and fire personnel with essential tools for responder safety. Utilizing Mobile Computing Terminal from the patrol unit,  officers have interface capability which allows them to check driving records, wanted or missing persons, and more from the computer.

RADIO

The Communications Division operates 700/800 MHz radios on a Smart Zone Trunking System called TXWarn.  TXWarn is a multi-site radio system which provides seamless roaming of Public Safety units throughout the region. The system has numerous towers throughout the thirteen county Houston-Galveston Area Council’s region, which enhances regional interoperability.  TxWarn is the third largest communications radio network in the United Sates.
