Mayor Domingo Montalvo, Jr.
![]() Domingo Montalvo, Jr. graduated from Wharton High School in 1979 and attended two years at Wharton County Junior College before graduting from the Houston Fire Academy in 1984. He then pursued a career as a firefighter and is a sixteen year veteran of the Houston Fire Department with seven years in the Special Operations Division. Mr. Montalvo belongs to several organizations and has special interests, which include the Houston Professional Firefighter Association Local 341, City of Wharton Fire Department Assistant Chief, Wharton Emergency Medical Services, Wharton Lions Club, Wharton Knights of Columbus, Executive Board of the Coastal Conservation, Wharton County Junior College Advisory Board for Fire Degree Program, Chairman of the Colorado River Floodplain Steering Committee, Wharton Little League Manager and Board Member, Past Girl Softball Coach, Independance Day Celebration Founder and Fiesta Hispano Americano Lifetime Member. Mr. Montalvo is the first hispanic to be elected as a City of Wharton Councilmember At-Large.
Councilmember Alfred (Al) Bryant, District No. 1
Alfred Bryant is a lifelong resident of the City of Wharton, Wharton County, Texas. He graduated from Wharton Training High School in 1968 and went on to attend Northwood Institute of Texas for one year. When he returned to Wharton, he attended the Wharton County Junior College and is working toward a degree in Business Management. He is a Baptist by faith and a long standing member of East Gate/New Prospertiy Baptist Church in Wharton, Texas. Councilmember Bryant married Ms. Rita Godfrey and has one daughter, Cheneka Avon Bryant. He has held various positions of employment throughout his life. He began working at W.K.M. in Richmond, Texas. Later on, he became a volunteer firefighter in Wharton and is currently employed by Wharton County Precinct No. 2. Mr. Bryant is looking forward to retirement at the end of year 2011 and will continue to work as a landscaper.
Councilmember Karen Pyka Schulz, District No. 2
Karen Pyka Schulz was born in Wharton, Texas. She attended school from 1st through 12th grade in Wharton. She graduated from Wharton High School and then attended Wharton County Junior College and earned an Associate of Applied Science Degree. She married Jimmy Schulz in 1982 and has two sons. Karen is the owner of Schulz Insurance Agency and manages 4-S Investments. She is an active member of River Pointe Church. Karen enjoys spending time with her husband, working in her yard and playing tennis.
Councilmember Terry David Lynch, District No. 3
Born in Greenville, Texas, Terry David Lynch has been a resident of Wharton since 1978. He graduated from Wharton High School in 1983. After serving four years in the U.S. Air Force, he returned home and began his career in Law Enforcement. For the next seventeen years, he served the City of Wharton as a police officer, with fourteen years as a detective sergeant. During his service as a police officer, he accomplished many goals in law enforcement. He was the first K-9 officer for the Wharton Police Department, as well as one of the youngest detectives promoted to Criminal Investigations. He also served as the department training officer, earning instructor certifications as a firearms instructor, defensive tactics instructor, TASER instructor, pepper spray and chemical munitions instructor. In 2001, he was assigned additional duties as the tactical team commander/team leader for the 10-man Wharton PD Emergency Response Team, and maintained in that position until leaving the department in June 2006. In 2006, he became the Police Academy Coordinator and Law Enforcement Instructor for the Wharton County Junior College (WCJC). Terry has an AAS in Law Enforcement and an AA in Criminal Justice from WCJC. He is currently classified as a senior with Midwestern State University. He is a 2002 graduate of Leadership Wharton County and in 2005, he was selected to, and graduated from, the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia. Terry is currently on the Board of Directors for the East Wharton County Crime Stoppers, Board of Directors for the Wharton Economic Development Corporation (WEDC), a Board Member for the El Campo Police Department Explorer Program, as well as a member of the Advisory Board for the City of Wharton Emergency Management CERT Program. He was a previous manager/coach for the Wharton Babe Ruth Baseball League for eight years. He is married to Carol (Vargas) Lynch, also of Wharton. They have two children, David and Sarah, both of which are products of Wharton ISD. Terry and Carol have chosen to live, work and raise their family in Wharton.
Councilmember and Mayor Pro-Tem Donald Mueller, District No. 4
Donald Mueller retired from the Texas Department of Transportation in 1991 and was active as a Highway Maintenance Contractor from 1992 to 2007. He was elected to serve as a City of Wharton Councilmember in May 1992 and is a member of the Knights of Columbus. Mr. Mueller currently serves as Mayor Pro-Tem for the City of Wharton. He married Betty Krenek of Hungerford in 1958 and has three daughters and three grandchildren. Mr. Mueller, in his leisure time enjoys farming, hunting and working.
Councilmember Russell Machann, District No. 5 At-Large
Born in San Angelo, Texas, Russell grew up in Katy, Texas, and attended Katy High School. He later advanced to Angelo State University and Sam Houston State University. He has lived in Wharton, Texas, for twenty years. He is married to Karen and they have three daughters, Kacy, Andrea and Robin. Russell is employed at CEO Performance Chemicals and Chemstation in Houston as Sr. Sales Account Manager. He is co-owner of The Flower Shoppe with his wife, and an insurance agent for Kevin Severance Insurance in League City. Russell has been involved in the Wharton County Youth Fair since 1994, serving as 2nd Vice President, a member of the Executive Board, and Chairman of the BBQ Cook Off, Ticket Booth, and several other fair committees. He has been involved with the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo as Ambassador for Area Go Texan of Wharton County, a life time member since 1986, and also on Membership and Directory and Assistance Committees. He has been an active member on the Ducks Unlimited Committee since 1994. Russell has also served on the Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors as Vice President, the Board of the Wharton County Freedom Fest Committee since its inception, the Board of Directors at the Wharton Country Club, and the Men's Golf Association as President. He also volunteered and chaired committees for Senior Serve and Project Grad at Wharton High School events. He has served as Chairman of Rules and Regulations for Storm Racing. He has been a Duck and Goose Guide for eighteen years for W. S. Sherrill Waterfowl. He is an active Member of Holy Family Catholic Church. His interests involves family time with his daughters, racing and riding motorcycles, fishing, hunting and golf.
Councilmember Jeff Gubbels, M.D., District No. 6 At-Large
Dr. Jeffery Gubbels graduated from Lamar Consolidated in Rosenberg in 1979. He attended Texas A & M University and graduated from medical school in 1986. After completing a residency in Ob/Gyn at Scott & White Hospital in 1990, he moved to Wharton and joined South Texas Medical Clinics. He has served as the President of the Board of Directors there since 1995 and Medical Director since 1997. He is married to Michelle Rochen Gubbels of Rosenberg and has four daughters; Rachel, Sarah, Hannah, and Kate. He is a member of the Knights of Columbus, Director of Wharton Economic Develoment Corporation, and a life member of the American College of Physician Executives. |
